If only it were true.

1) The US does not reward success, it does not care about you or me. None of the positive things he ascribes to the US are true anymore.

2) He says that the FairTax allows the government to raise its \"necessary\" revenue, but in truth, it allow it to raise FAR, FAR more than what is necessary. Indeed, if the Federal Government would return to year 2000 spending levels, we could do away with the individual income tax and replace it with nothing. NOTHING! The FairTax would also increase people\'s dependency on government and make it even MORE difficult for taxes to decrease. Why do I say that? Because of the prebate check. Once you start it, people will never want to stop getting their prebate check from the government.

I do not know, Orat. I support the FairTax. What is wrong with the prebate checks? If you look at the flip side, the prebates are something similar to the standard deductions and personal exemptions we have now with our tax system.

My view is the FairTax closes loopholes that allow people to avoid paying their fair share of taxes, we will be taxed on what we choose to spend, not on what we earn.

I personally have a problem with making every retail merchant in the country a de facto tax collecter. Just as it\'s not my job to make sure you obey the law, neither should it be the retail merchant\'s responsibility to do the government\'s job for them.

Also, not everyone would pay in, but everyone would get back. You could buy second-hand and make a mint in prebates, all generously provided for by your neighbors who buy new.

Are you saying your neighbors who choose to buy new doesn't have a choice to buy second hand? That doesn't make sense. Retail Merchants are already a tax collector.
